Misconception about Prayer Hindering Answer to Prayer

Prayer has been defined in many ways by different authors. These differences in understanding of prayer has led to huge misconception about prayer.

To some, prayer is a conversation between immortal (God) and mortal (man). For others, prayer is a monologue where you just list whatever you want to a supreme being who then react and deliver all your request.

Another school of thought sees prayer as praise, lament, thanksgiving, confession, and petition—unilateral actions. But prayer doesn't really work that way. After all Jesus, apostle Paul and the disciple prayed one time or the other and God reply them immediately.

If prayer is praise, confession or petition, aren't we suppose to mind God reaction to same. For us to understand God reaction, we must be able to hear from him which makes prayer a two way causation.

I know by now you must be thinking in your mind, so conversation is the best approach to prayer.  If  that is what you are thinking then you are right. Oh! you wondering how do I hear God voice? Do people actually hear God voice? All that stuff.

Now that we understand that prayer is communication and that communication involves two persons, we should therefore concludes that prayer is praying to another person for a thing and waiting diligently to hear the other party response.

Most people fails to hear God's voice after praying for number of reasons to include:

·         Understanding: Some people believes that prayer is a monologues. A situation where you tell God what you want and expect him to deliver as fast as possible but care less for what he want. Therefore they don't care about God's reply or will, and they never get any reply from God.

·         Some fails to hear God's voice simply because they are over burden with so many issues and often pray absent minded. Can you imagine talking to your friend and you suddenly dose off or started talking off point. It's embarrassing right? That is exactly what we do to God in most cases.

·         Another reason is doubt. Some people don't believes that they can actually hear from God when they pray, they actually don't hear from God. Prayer should be done in faith.

Things to considered when praying for quick answer to prayer

  • ·Before going to God in prayer, we need to have our own heart searched out, are there any form of unforgiveness , resentment, prideful attitude, any sin to be repented of. Think! We need to be cleansed before we enter the holy of holies where prayer is answered.
  • We come to him on the basis of the blood of Christ.  Plead the blood severally over your life, because the blood is living and he speaks better things than the blood of Abel.

  • ·    Prayer should be done on the basis of bringing God's will to be done on earth not man's will. God respond faster when we seek for his own will on our life than seeking for our own will. The best way to pray for God's will is through submission to the holy spirit. i.e praying in the Holy Ghost. Though we don't know what to say but the Holy Spirit help our infirmities,,, (Rom 8: 26)
  • ·         What are you asking for? What is your intention with what you are asking for. James 4:3,, Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. God want to see our intention when we ask him to bless us. Do we ask because we want to live well, power, wisdom, level of intelligence or smartness, or is it for promoting God's kingdom. Yeah! God even sees your heart even if you pretend you are actually seeking for wisdom, wealth, power and others for his kingdom.
  • ·         Are you faithful in your ministry? If you can't be faithful in the little why ask for bigger assignment. If we ask for more ministry he may have that intention but if we have not been faithful in the small things we need to wait and become faithful for any expansion. God is not going to grow a church if the people are not being fed and they are being neglected.
·         Keeping God's commandment accelerate answers to our prayer.

I Jn.3:22-24 “And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him.”

Notice if we keep his commandments do what is right we will have get our prayers answered. In Isa.65:24 “God says before they call I will answer, while they are still speaking I will hear.” He loves to respond to what we ask.

Secret to answer to prayer
This is the fastest secret of answer to prayer as contained in John 15:7-10"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciple

"As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.” Once this is in place before you open your mouth to ask the angels will be in haste to deliver your commands.

Have you not notice that no matter how busy you are if a dear one call for your attention you quickly abandon whatever you doing to pay him or her attention.  Same way it is when you make God your friend through constant abiding with him. If God can call Abraham, Davis and many others his friends then you can make him your friend too. Try seeking God face and not his hand.

Use this prayer points on spiritual growth with bible verses to seek his face today.
