CORINTHIANS 5: 15.... And that he died for
all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto
him which died for them, and rose again.
The question is do you believe Christ died for
you and for all? Then if you believe, are you serving God or serving
yourselves? Christianity, or born again is not about us, but all about Christ,
He loved us first and died for us, so we love him back by living for him. It means
that our life is not our own. We have been bought with the price of Christ's
death and therefore are called to serve not self but Christ (1 Cor 6:19-20).
Freedom is an illusion. We like to think along the lines of William Ernest
Henley: "I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul."
The fact of the matter is that ours is to serve, not to be served. We can
either be serving Christ-making Him Lord of our life or we are serving ourselves
and making Christ our servant instead of our Lord. The difference is between
treating Christ as a houseguest and serving him as the house owner. Five things
can be inferred or summarized from this verse.
Ø Christ has died your death: Christ died for you so that you no longer need
to die again in your sin. He died so you will no longer be condemned to
judgment for your iniquities no matter how gravious it might be. Because of
Christ love for us, he died for us even when we are still living in sin
{Rom.5:8}, For there is therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ
Jesus. So you no longer need any sacrifice to appease your sin, you don't need
to pray too much, just believe in Christ death, then you are saved{John 3:16}.
Ø You are called to Serve not to be served: We
have been bought with the price of Christ's death and therefore are called to
serve not self but Christ (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Now that you know you have been
bought with a price through Christ death. You are expected to live for Christ
by expressing your love for him. This can be expressed by not seeking to please
our own
honor, profit, pleasure. You can spend the
whole of your day in pursuing earthly things; things that perish but you can't
spent your time to serve him. You can serve God through:
1.Your financial commitment. Pay your tithe and your offering,
stop robbing God by eating your own and God's own, your tithe is 10% of all
your earning, don't be deceived if you eat your tithe, you will pay it indirectly by loss, sickness and many
other ways without knowing. you are not doing your pastor favor by paying tithe
rather yourself. Another way you serve through your finance is by giving to the
poor, give cheerfully to the needy around you, give to the needy brethren in
the church that is why Jesus bless you. Read matt. 25-35. Whatever you do to the
poor you do it to Christ.
2. You can also serve
Christ by your service in your church: If you are serving in any unit in your
church faithfully and diligently with all sincerity not serving to please
anyone but to please Christ. Then your pastor is not in any way doing God's
work in the church better than you. Infact, you can discover your own calling
through faithful service in your local church.
3. You can also serve by reconciling
others to Christ: You have been called to preach the gospel, you must not be a
pastor to preach the gospel. 2 Corinthians
5: 19-21: And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by
Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation,,,,,,,,,,
Christ death has reconciled us to God, is not everyone that knows this, so is
your duty to let them know this by telling them about the savior. Mark 16:15,, go ye into all the world, and
preach the gospel to every creature. Just talk to someone today in your working
place, neighborhood and God will bless you.
Ø Live the life of Christ: The
last thing in that verse is that you should live for Christ, you should live
the life Christ would have live on earth. The life of Christ is the life of
love, sacrifice, honest, tolerance, patient, faith, hope, forbearance,
integrity and holiness. If you live the life of Christ, you can command all
thing to answer to you and they will. John 14:12,, he that believeth on me, the
works I do, shall he also do, and greater works than these shall he also do.
When you start living the life of Christ on earth, a life full of love for God
and unconditional love for others, you are sure to get everything you need in
life.
Remember, that the
highest level of service is living a holy life, by keeping the commandment of
God,,,, Rom. 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that
you present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable before God which
is your reasonable service.
